Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with the US totaled $7,036,694,759, up 5.85% ($388,956,047) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $3,913,003,698, up 25.39% ($792,412,101) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $3,123,691,061, down 11.44% ($403,456,054) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with the US went from a deficit of $406,555,518 in the 4th quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $789,312,637 in the 4th quarter of 2018.

The US was Russia’s 7th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 6th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 3.7662% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.9772% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The US was Russia’s 9th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 3.1432% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.0337% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The US was Russia’s 3rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 5.0104% of Russia’s total imports (down from 5.4872% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 41.21% of Russia’s total exports to the US (27.35% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 19.06% of Russia’s total exports to the US (40.72% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.39% of Russia’s total exports to the US (12.34% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 10.69% of Russia’s total exports to the US (7.77% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.76% of Russia’s total exports to the US (7.63% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.71% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.45% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 43.35% of Russia’s total imports from the US (46.21% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 19.39% of Russia’s total imports from the US (16.47% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.70% of Russia’s total imports from the US (3.26% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.15% of Russia’s total imports from the US (3.36% in the 4th quarter of 2017).
