Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In 2018, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $45,327,999, up 20.19% ($7,613,710) from 2017.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2018 totaled $15,913,205, up 10.81% ($1,552,307) from 2017.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2018 totaled $29,414,794, up 25.96% ($6,061,403) from 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in 2018 was $13,501,589, a 50.14% increase ($4,509,096) over 2017.

Iceland was Russia’s 136th largest trading partner in 2018 (down from 134th in 2017), accounting for 0.0066% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0065% in 2017).

Iceland was Russia’s 143rd largest export market in 2018 (down from 140th in 2017), accounting for 0.0035% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0040% in 2017).

Iceland was Russia’s 102nd largest supplier in 2018 (just as in 2017), accounting for 0.0124% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0103% in 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in 2018 (and in 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 34.08% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (25.66% in 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.11% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (22.95% in 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 17.79% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (12.20% in 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.27% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (5.42% in 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.05% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (4.17% in 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.55% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (25.89% in 2017);

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,076,378;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $1,015,289;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $638,287;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $415,983;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $325,114;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $261,947;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $158,329;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $74,700.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2018 over 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,361,471;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $484,874;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $114,937.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 27.14% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (43.94% in 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 16.38% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (3.26% in 2017);
