Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In 2018, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $766,933,677, up 77.97% ($336,000,088) from 2017.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2018 totaled $733,738,441, up 90.11% ($347,793,501) from 2017.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2018 were $33,195,236, down 26.21% ($11,793,413) from 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in 2018 was $700,543,205, a 105.46% increase ($359,586,914) over 2017.

Nigeria was Russia’s 74th largest trading partner in 2018 (up from 82nd in 2017), accounting for 0.1115% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0738% in 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 64th largest export market in 2018 (up from 71st in 2017), accounting for 0.1631% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1081% in 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 99th largest supplier in 2018 (down from 95th in 2017), accounting for 0.0139% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0198% in 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in 2018 (and in 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 56.23% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (67.54% in 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 27.89% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (18.76% in 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.90% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (7.25% in 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.33% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.90% in 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.26% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.13% in 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2018 over 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $147,808,508;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $132,292,405;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $8,689,009;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $4,014,995.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2018 over 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $4,920,909.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in 2018 (and in 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 96.77% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (98.19% in 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.16% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (1.67% in 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2018 over 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $335,871.
