Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Australia totaled $208,394,862, up 8.02% ($15,479,898) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $33,643,635, up 25.86% ($6,913,555) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $174,751,227, up 5.15% ($8,566,343) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $141,107,592, a 1.19% increase ($1,652,788) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Australia was Russia’s 70th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1324% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1224% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Australia was Russia’s 92nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 96th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0322% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0259% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $956,056;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $379,506;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $266,604;
