Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh totaled $384,107,673, up 18.73% ($60,585,326) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $118,857,929, up 52.79% ($41,067,453) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $265,249,744, up 7.94% ($19,517,873) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $146,391,815, a 12.83% decrease ($21,549,580) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Bangladesh was Russia’s 56th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 60th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2440% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2052% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 68th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 74th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1139% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0755% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 34th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 35th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.5001% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4500% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh

The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 80.51% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (42.09% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.53% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (23.67% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.85% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (4.06% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.96% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (22.26% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.85% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (0.84% in the 1st quarter of 2018);

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $4,580,945;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $805,524;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $803,266;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $753,468;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $607,059;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $519,479.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $15,902,973;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $9,046,635;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $4,850,089;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $4,197,844;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,918,115;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $1,323,785.
