Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Egypt totaled $1,867,100,231, up 12.19% ($202,797,622) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $1,708,779,161, up 16.08% ($236,646,770) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $158,321,070, down 17.61% ($33,849,148) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $1,550,458,091, a 21.13% increase ($270,495,918) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Egypt was Russia’s 20th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 19th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.1860% of Russia’s total trade (up from 1.0558% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Egypt was Russia’s 17th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 18th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.6370% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.4289% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Egypt was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 43rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2985% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3519% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 21.43% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (38.48% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 11.41% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (7.35% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.16% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (20.38% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.38% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (6.17% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.83% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (13.80% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.58% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.22% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $93,156,800;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $23,552,668;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $15,538,104.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $178,080,574;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $113,314,886;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $104,905,843;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $26,039,866;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $21,612,569;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $12,501,270;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $11,450,451;

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 4.94% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (5.90% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.26% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (4.03% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
