Russia’s Trade with Ethiopia

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Ethiopia was $18,280,980, down 33.21% ($9,087,821) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Ethiopia in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $14,204,964, down 30.38% ($6,198,412) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Ethiopia in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $4,076,016, down 41.48% ($2,889,409) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ethiopia in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $10,128,948, a 24.62% decrease ($3,309,003) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Ethiopia was Russia’s 122nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 115th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0116% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0174% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Ethiopia was Russia’s 112th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 104th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0136% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0198% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Ethiopia was Russia’s 108th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 99th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0077% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0128% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Ethiopia

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ethiopia in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $9,383,654;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $4,692,715;

Russia’s Imports from Ethiopia

The major share of Russian imports from Ethiopia in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 88.76% of Russia’s total imports from Ethiopia (95.06% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 11.23% of Russia’s total imports from Ethiopia (4.94% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
