Russia’s Trade with France

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with France was $3,554,481,351, down 15.03% ($628,834,646) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to France in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $1,800,110,775, up 8.75% ($144,850,899) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from France in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $1,754,370,576, down 30.60% ($773,685,545) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with France went from a deficit of $872,796,245 in the 1st quarter of 2018, to a surplus of $45,740,199 in the 1st quarter of 2019.

France was Russia’s 12th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 2.2579% of Russia’s total trade (down from 2.6538% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

France was Russia’s 16th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.7245% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.6067% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

France was Russia’s 8th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 5th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.3074% of Russia’s total imports (down from 4.6293% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to France

The major share of Russian exports to France in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 87.86% of Russia’s total exports to France (85.19% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.55% of Russia’s total exports to France (3.60% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.77% of Russia’s total exports to France (3.79% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.14% of Russia’s total exports to France (3.64% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to France (1.21% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to France in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $139,409,932;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $30,902,084.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to France in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $15,496,226;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $10,790,343;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $8,228,993.

Russia’s Imports from France

The major share of Russian imports from France in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 29.19% of Russia’s total imports from France (23.77% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.63% of Russia’s total imports from France (10.01% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.26% of Russia’s total imports from France (3.23% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
