Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Ghana totaled $54,628,668, up 16.73% ($7,828,074) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $32,597,710, up 32.56% ($8,007,578) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $22,030,958, down 0.81% ($179,504) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $10,566,752, a 344.04% increase ($8,187,082) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Ghana was Russia’s 95th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 96th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0347% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0297% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Ghana was Russia’s 94th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 100th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0312% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0239% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Ghana was Russia’s 86th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 84th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0415% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0407% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 50.04% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (58.33% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 34.71% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (21.99% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.03% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (10.08% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.53% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (2.71% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.40% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (6.88% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $5,463,247;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $1,981,633;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $1,606,447;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $348,051;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $139,037.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,234,417;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $414,440.

Russia’s Imports from Ghana

The major share of Russian imports from Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.87% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (99.41% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.12% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (0.59% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $115,961.
