Russia’s Trade with Hungary

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Hungary totaled $1,500,942,478, up 0.13% ($2,006,075) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $1,011,346,253, up 2.41% ($23,782,051) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $489,596,225, down 4.26% ($21,775,976) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $521,750,028, a 9.57% increase ($45,558,027) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Hungary was Russia’s 23rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 22nd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.9534% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.9509% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Hungary was Russia’s 24th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 25th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.9689% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.9586% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Hungary was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.9230% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.9364% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Hungary

The major share of Russian exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 86.64% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (79.25% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.98% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (9.02% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.11% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (9.89% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $6,766,129;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $4,757,475;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $4,357,550;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $3,583,111.

Russia’s Imports from Hungary

The major share of Russian imports from Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 39.63% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (34.71% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 29.50% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (30.34% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.75% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (19.61% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.17% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (3.39% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
