Russia’s Trade with Ireland

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Ireland totaled $451,772,347, up 6.92% ($29,256,141) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $102,893,808, down 31.27% ($46,818,129) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $348,878,539, up 27.89% ($76,074,270) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $245,984,731, a 99.84% increase ($122,892,399) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Ireland was Russia’s 52nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2870% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2680% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Ireland was Russia’s 72nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 63rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0986% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1453% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Ireland was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 34th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.6577% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4996% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Ireland

The major share of Russian exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 60.15% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (44.98% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 26.79% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (13.83% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.19% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (6.61% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.92% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (1.13% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.32% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (2.28% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,563,930;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,387,125;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $691,785;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $447,500;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $370,581.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $5,411,243;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,971,355;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $1,202,346;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,049,916.

Russia’s Imports from Ireland

The major share of Russian imports from Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 70.66% of Russia’s total imports from Ireland (55.40% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 18.09% of Russia’s total imports from Ireland (27.64% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.17% of Russia’s total imports from Ireland (14.20% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $61,887,733;
