Russia’s Trade with North Korea

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with North Korea totaled $15,888,048, up 202.40% ($10,633,979) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $15,402,715, up 230.08% ($10,736,310) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $485,333, down 17.41% ($102,331) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $14,917,382, a 265.73% increase ($10,838,641) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

North Korea was Russia’s 125th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 144th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0101% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0033% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

North Korea was Russia’s 110th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 128th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0148% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0045% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

North Korea was Russia’s 139th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 136th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0009% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0011% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $172,273;

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.36% of Russia’s total imports from North Korea (1.16% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
