Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $337,437,442, up 16.03% ($46,620,878) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $273,079,470, up 24.22% ($53,238,395) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $64,357,972, down 9.32% ($6,617,517) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $208,721,498, a 40.21% increase ($59,855,912) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Norway was Russia’s 60th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 63rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2143% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1845% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Norway was Russia’s 53rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 57th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2616% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2134% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Norway was Russia’s 65th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1213% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1300% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 56.70% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (48.60% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 18.61% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (24.86% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.85% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (16.20% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.15% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (4.85% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.84% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.62% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.79% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.99% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $42,487,067;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $16,182,064;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $6,253,813;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $4,869,598;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $4,007,493;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,058,470;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $1,849,658.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $6,758,764;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,685,803;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $4,668,859;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $2,420,387;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - a decrease of $1,497,600;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,017,936.
