Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Pakistan was $191,503,584, down 41.33% ($134,916,208) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $58,550,099, down 72.27% ($152,602,908) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $132,953,485, up 15.34% ($17,686,700) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Pakistan went from a surplus of $95,886,222 in the 1st quarter of 2018, to a deficit of $74,403,386 in the 1st quarter of 2019.

Pakistan was Russia’s 73rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 59th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1216% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2071% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Pakistan was Russia’s 82nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 58th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0561% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2050% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Pakistan was Russia’s 52nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 57th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2507% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2111% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 28.66% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (12.67% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 27.45% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (2.38% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.40% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (8.76% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 12.39% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (4.41% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.12% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (9.21% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.45% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (2.28% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $11,509,316;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $297,851.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $13,428,222;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,827,961;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,957,208;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $2,649,197;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,413,220;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,056,664;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,974,923;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,562,084;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $902,030;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $788,063;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $448,425;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $342,331.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

The major share of Russian imports from Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 52.59% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (47.69% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 35.61% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (39.88% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.31% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (1.54% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.08% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (1.26% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $1,022,469;
  • Man-made staple fibers (HS code 55) - an increase of $937,133;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $739,056;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $571,381;
  • Articles of leather; saddlery and harness; travel goods, handbags and similar containers; articles of animal gut (other than silkworm gut) (HS code 42) - an increase of $557,607;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $498,479.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
