Russia’s Trade with Portugal

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Portugal was $293,431,514, down 32.37% ($140,424,589) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $169,363,765, down 43.89% ($132,453,622) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $124,067,749, down 6.04% ($7,970,967) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $45,296,016, a 73.32% decrease ($124,482,655) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Portugal was Russia’s 63rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 51st in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1864% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2752% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Portugal was Russia’s 62nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 48th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1623% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2930% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Portugal was Russia’s 54th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 51st in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2339% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2418% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Portugal

The major share of Russian exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 85.80% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (91.91% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.14% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (3.76% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.27% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (2.20% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.15% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.56% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $3,749,994;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,534,563;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,305,437;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,175,016;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $731,071.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $132,142,107;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $6,168,060;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $1,233,403;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $927,149;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $726,762.

Russia’s Imports from Portugal

The major share of Russian imports from Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 31.32% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (35.99% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 21.23% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (19.12% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.36% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (13.02% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 13.39% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (14.53% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.95% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (8.91% in the 1st quarter of 2018);

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $747,401;
