Russia’s Trade with Qatar

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Qatar was $18,588,584, down 6.02% ($1,191,430) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $9,510,880, down 21.51% ($2,606,575) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $9,077,704, up 18.47% ($1,415,145) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $433,176, a 90.28% decrease ($4,021,720) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Qatar was Russia’s 121st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0118% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0125% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Qatar was Russia’s 117th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 116th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0091% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0118% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Qatar was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 97th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0171% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0140% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Qatar

The major share of Russian exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 65.25% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (1.00% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.19% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (77.36% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.05% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (1.62% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.67% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (9.37% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.48% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (6.23% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.81% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (3.71% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $204,989;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $143,809;
  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - an increase of $105,939;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $94,682;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $68,729;
  • Works of art, collectors’ pieces and antiques (HS code 97) - an increase of $65,488;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $44,868;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $30,604.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $8,090,911;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $732,986;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $315,392;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $176,421;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $158,886;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $119,371;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $53,648;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $47,224;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $35,825;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $32,901.
