Russia’s Trade with Syria
In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Syria totaled $65,627,270, up 31.78% ($15,828,117) from the 1st quarter of 2018.
Russia’s exports to Syria in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $63,731,616, up 35.05% ($16,541,719) from the 1st quarter of 2018.
Russia’s imports from Syria in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $1,895,654, down 27.35% ($713,602) from the 1st quarter of 2018.
Russia’s trade surplus with Syria in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $61,835,962, a 38.71% increase ($17,255,321) over the 1st quarter of 2018.
Syria was Russia’s 87th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0417% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0316% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
Syria was Russia’s 77th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 84th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0611% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0458% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
Syria was Russia’s 119th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 118th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0036% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0048% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 39.54% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (46.43% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 22.26% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (15.87% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.86% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (19.62% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.19% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (0.47% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.56% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (15.57% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.44% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (1.05% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

- Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $2,576,919;
- Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,940,456;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $6,969,902;
- Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $681,393;
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $377,007;
- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $218,982.
