Russia’s Trade with Tajikistan

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Tajikistan was $167,104,113, down 19.30% ($39,974,333) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $159,468,715, down 18.16% ($35,385,761) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $7,635,398, down 37.54% ($4,588,572) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $151,833,317, a 16.86% decrease ($30,797,189) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Tajikistan was Russia’s 75th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 68th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1061% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1314% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 63rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 60th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1528% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1891% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 97th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 91st in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0144% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0224% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Tajikistan

The major share of Russian exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 26.32% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (16.05% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.56% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (23.60% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.48% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (17.94% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.58% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (6.87% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.44% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (13.66% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.89% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (8.16% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,614,129;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $1,484,681;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $804,336;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $772,320;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $671,749;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $599,349;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $583,226.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $8,200,237;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $5,759,097;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $5,234,082;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $4,391,230;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - a decrease of $2,447,077;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $1,003,893;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $807,815;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $780,498;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $756,398;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $753,159;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $662,887;

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.22% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (5.21% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.73% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (4.54% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
