Russia’s Trade with Tanzania

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Tanzania was $24,603,656, down 43.84% ($19,207,806) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $18,729,216, down 54.17% ($22,136,607) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $5,874,440, up 99.43% ($2,928,801) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $12,854,776, a 66.10% decrease ($25,065,408) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Tanzania was Russia’s 113th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 101st in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0156% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0278% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Tanzania was Russia’s 104th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 86th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0179% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0397% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Tanzania was Russia’s 102nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 115th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0111% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0054% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Tanzania

The major share of Russian exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 76.62% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (91.88% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.31% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (0.51% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.73% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (4.39% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.14% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (1.71% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.01% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (1.48% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,284,111;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $192,261.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $23,216,250;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $595,951;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $486,241;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $293,351.

Russia’s Imports from Tanzania

The major share of Russian imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.96% of Russia’s total imports from Tanzania (99.92% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $3,035,425;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $95,520.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $131,164;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $99,733.
