Russia’s Trade with the Philippines

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with the Philippines totaled $265,235,036, up 61.47% ($100,977,115) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $177,524,731, up 133.87% ($101,616,357) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $87,710,305, down 0.72% ($639,242) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with the Philippines went from a deficit of $12,441,173 in the 1st quarter of 2018, to a surplus of $89,814,426 in the 1st quarter of 2019.

The Philippines was Russia’s 66th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 74th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1685% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1042% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The Philippines was Russia’s 60th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 75th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1701% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0737% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The Philippines was Russia’s 60th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1654% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1618% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to the Philippines

The major share of Russian exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 69.54% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (30.47% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 16.30% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (39.64% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.14% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (13.02% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.70% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (13.45% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.84% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (2.25% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.47% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (1.12% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $100,331,611;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $1,423,191;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $1,328,460;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,305,963;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,267,270;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $685,853.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,644,249;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,626,729;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $534,223.

Russia’s Imports from the Philippines

The major share of Russian imports from the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 80.95% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (81.72% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.88% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (8.95% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.84% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (4.33% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
