Russia’s Trade with Azerbaijan

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Azerbaijan totaled $833,305,960, up 21.62% ($148,130,506) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Azerbaijan in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $557,212,888, up 31.54% ($133,613,135) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Azerbaijan in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $276,093,072, up 5.55% ($14,517,371) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Azerbaijan in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $281,119,816, a 73.50% increase ($119,095,764) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Azerbaijan was Russia’s 36th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 41st in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.5205% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4009% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Azerbaijan was Russia’s 39th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.5530% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3844% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Azerbaijan was Russia’s 37th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 39th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4654% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4309% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Azerbaijan

The major share of Russian exports to Azerbaijan in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.64% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (19.90% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.56% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (23.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.43% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (4.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.32% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (21.37% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.40% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (12.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 11.18% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (14.24% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $14,413,107;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $12,645,505;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $10,608,285;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $7,616,019;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $6,298,175;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,201,291;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $3,078,508;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,858,377;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $2,226,651;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $1,960,226;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $1,711,049.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Azerbaijan in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,940,581;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $5,095,373;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $2,264,301.

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.44% of Russia’s total imports from Azerbaijan (10.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.04% of Russia’s total imports from Azerbaijan (1.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
