Russia’s Trade with China

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with China was $25,054,301,270, down 3.00% ($774,963,096) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $12,947,327,815, down 5.30% ($724,339,801) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from China in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $12,106,973,455, down 0.42% ($50,623,295) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with China in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $840,354,360, a 44.50% decrease ($673,716,506) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 15.6503% of Russia’s total trade (up from 15.1126% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

China was Russia’s largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 12.8492% of Russia’s total exports (up from 12.4058% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 20.4082% of Russia’s total imports (up from 20.0263% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 70.34% of Russia’s total exports to China (73.22% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.19% of Russia’s total exports to China (9.60% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.42% of Russia’s total exports to China (4.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.43% of Russia’s total exports to China (4.05% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.71% of Russia’s total exports to China (3.52% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.42% of Russia’s total exports to China (2.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).
