Russia’s Trade with Germany

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Germany was $11,289,744,914, down 23.61% ($3,489,325,972) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Germany in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $5,066,487,473, down 38.73% ($3,202,441,981) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Germany in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $6,223,257,441, down 4.41% ($286,883,991) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Germany went from a surplus of $1,758,788,022 in the 2nd quarter of 2018, to a deficit of $1,156,769,968 in the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Germany was Russia’s 3rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 2nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 7.0522% of Russia’s total trade (down from 8.6472% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Germany was Russia’s 3rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 5.0281% of Russia’s total exports (down from 7.5033% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Germany was Russia’s 2nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 10.4903% of Russia’s total imports (down from 10.7237% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Germany

The major share of Russian exports to Germany in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 76.04% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (84.63% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.16% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (5.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.71% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (2.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 3.82% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (1.79% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.64% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (2.49% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $23,467,892.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Germany in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
