Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Ghana totaled $42,348,557, up 6.66% ($2,643,474) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $24,543,267, up 22.90% ($4,572,510) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $17,805,290, down 9.78% ($1,929,036) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $6,737,977, a 2,749.87% increase ($6,501,546) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Ghana was Russia’s 99th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 107th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0265% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0232% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Ghana was Russia’s 98th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 106th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0244% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0181% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Ghana was Russia’s 88th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 86th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0300% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0325% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 45.30% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (24.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 24.57% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (0.06% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 16.15% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (12.03% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.92% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (55.16% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.15% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (5.07% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.92% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (3.38% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,559,140;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $6,003,564;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,554,845;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $137,472.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $8,976,615;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $346,677;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $248,543;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $114,578.

Russia’s Imports from Ghana

The major share of Russian imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.70% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (99.51% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
