Russia’s Trade with Iceland
In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $14,715,794, up 69.76% ($6,047,312) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.
Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $4,757,790, up 48.59% ($1,555,928) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.
Russia’s imports from Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $9,958,004, up 82.16% ($4,491,384) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.
Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $5,200,214, a 129.61% increase ($2,935,456) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.
Iceland was Russia’s 128th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 138th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0092% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0051% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).
Iceland was Russia’s 135th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 140th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0047% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0029% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).
Iceland was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 105th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0168% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0090% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).
Russia’s Exports to Iceland
The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 64.19% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (24.07% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 19.09% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (29.88% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 10.17% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (21.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.16% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (3.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
- Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.55% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (14.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.41% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (2.35% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,276,206;
- Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $517,386;
- Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $130,399.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

- Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - a decrease of $276,816;
- Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $193,612;
- Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $146,291;
- Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $74,700;
- Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $53,647;
- Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $31,298;
- Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $28,243.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland
The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 42.35% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (60.03% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
