Russia’s Trade with Libya

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Libya was $17,425,635, down 63.90% ($30,844,042) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Libya in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $17,419,442, down 63.90% ($30,835,656) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Libya in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $6,193, down 57.52% ($8,386) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Libya in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $17,413,249, a 63.90% decrease ($30,827,270) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Libya was Russia’s 125th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 104th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0109% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0282% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Libya was Russia’s 106th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 88th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0173% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0438% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Libya was Russia’s 179th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 162nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0000% of Russia’s total imports (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Libya

The major share of Russian exports to Libya in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 38.58% of Russia’s total exports to Libya (22.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 38.58% of Russia’s total exports to Libya (1.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 20.39% of Russia’s total exports to Libya (3.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.76% of Russia’s total exports to Libya (1.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $5,913,080;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $1,914,606;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $221,574;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $59,442.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Libya in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $26,924,016;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $7,351,184;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $3,083,162;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $563,746;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $534,681;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $412,848;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $71,701.
