Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Malaysia was $653,298,316, down 0.36% ($2,385,927) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $219,806,389, down 16.98% ($44,943,223) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $433,491,927, up 10.89% ($42,557,296) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $213,685,538, a 69.34% increase ($87,500,519) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Malaysia was Russia’s 41st largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 42nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4081% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3836% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Malaysia was Russia’s 56th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 52nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2181% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2402% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Malaysia was Russia’s 28th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 31st in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.7307% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.6440% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 82.46% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (75.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.39% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (15.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.38% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (0.91% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.09% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (2.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $5,285,916;

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $847,940.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $24,986,861;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $23,199,622;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $5,967,988;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,199,574;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $1,839,830;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - a decrease of $724,700;
