Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Mexico was $583,796,636, down 19.97% ($145,714,011) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $308,111,544, down 41.90% ($222,205,434) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $275,685,092, up 38.40% ($76,491,423) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $32,426,452, a 90.21% decrease ($298,696,857) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Mexico was Russia’s 43rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 40th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3647% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4268% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Mexico was Russia’s 48th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 41st in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3058% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4812% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Mexico was Russia’s 38th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 46th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4647% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3281% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 72.51% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (71.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.79% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (14.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.43% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (0.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.93% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.24% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.94% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.17% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (9.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $7,663,647;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $4,055,038;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,325,298;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $1,896,745;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $960,477.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $164,127,031;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $45,579,166;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $16,659,517;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $6,684,777;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,294,407;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,231,887;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,118,325.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 71.15% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (74.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.27% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (2.97% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.26% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (11.65% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.46% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (6.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
