Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Mongolia was $418,999,020, down 0.28% ($1,163,449) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $408,690,405, up 0.02% ($91,272) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $10,308,615, down 10.85% ($1,254,721) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $398,381,790, a 0.34% increase ($1,345,993) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Mongolia was Russia’s 53rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 54th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2617% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2458% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Mongolia was Russia’s 41st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 45th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4056% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3708% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Mongolia was Russia’s 94th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 93rd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0174% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0190% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 60.18% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (59.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.10% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (15.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.26% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (8.76% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.73% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (7.20% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.68% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (6.37% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,917,140;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $3,928,282;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $3,295,341;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $2,752,096;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,581,166;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,168,728.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $17,111,787;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,521,411;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,398,161.
