Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua totaled $18,705,254, up 44.52% ($5,762,063) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $14,094,808, up 89.50% ($6,656,909) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $4,610,446, down 16.25% ($894,846) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $9,484,362, a 390.75% increase ($7,551,755) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 122nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 127th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0117% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0076% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 112th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 125th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0140% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0067% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 113th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 104th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0078% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0091% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 49.59% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (84.37% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 35.00% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (3.22% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 13.05% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (8.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.07% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (3.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,191,948;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $714,563;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $664,795;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $451,611;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $223,583.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $197,696.

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.43% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (98.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.64% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (0.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.82% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (1.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $1,063,255;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $879,981;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $26,234;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - a decrease of $19,297.
