Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $65,209,199, down 73.25% ($178,564,004) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $61,548,599, down 73.63% ($171,832,349) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $3,660,600, down 64.78% ($6,731,655) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $57,887,999, a 74.04% decrease ($165,100,694) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Nigeria was Russia’s 91st largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 72nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0407% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1426% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Nigeria was Russia’s 82nd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 57th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0611% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2118% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Nigeria was Russia’s 116th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 95th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0062% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0171% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 21.72% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (19.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.45% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.21% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.10% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.46% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.02% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.37% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $225,505;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $219,564.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $116,188,071;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $32,505,794;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,623,887;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $814,296;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $751,500;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $575,030;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $541,108;

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.24% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (4.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $264,177;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $42,622;
