Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka totaled $114,052,746, up 3.71% ($4,076,844) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $36,294,063, up 25.41% ($7,354,691) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $77,758,683, down 4.04% ($3,277,847) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $41,464,620, a 20.41% decrease ($10,632,538) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 82nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 83rd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0712% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0643% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 90th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 99th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0360% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0263% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 66th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 62nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1311% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1335% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 33.39% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (16.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 32.36% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (6.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.96% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (52.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $8,432,170;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $678,700;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $291,249.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $9,561,107;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $966,125;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $734,765;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $186,947;

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 48.40% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (56.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 43.64% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (35.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.35% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (5.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
