Russia’s Trade with China

In 2011, Russia’s trade with China totaled $83,231,949,915, up 40.38% ($23,941,052,283) from 2010.

Russia’s exports to China in 2011 totaled $35,030,117,601, up 72.34% ($14,703,668,522) from 2010.

Russia’s imports from China in 2011 totaled $48,201,832,314, up 23.71% ($9,237,383,761) from 2010.

Russia’s trade deficit with China in 2011 was $13,171,714,713, a 29.33% decrease ($5,466,284,761) over 2010.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in 2011 (just as in 2010), accounting for 10.1197% of Russia’s total trade (up from 9.4717% in 2010).

China was Russia’s 2nd largest export market in 2011 (up from 5th in 2010), accounting for 6.7794% of Russia’s total exports (up from 5.1191% in 2010).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in 2011 (just as in 2010), accounting for 15.7646% of Russia’s total imports (down from 17.0216% in 2010).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in 2011 (and in 2010) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 72.27% of Russia’s total exports to China (55.61% in 2010);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.88% of Russia’s total exports to China (13.99% in 2010);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.60% of Russia’s total exports to China (14.24% in 2010);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.76% of Russia’s total exports to China (4.67% in 2010);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.40% of Russia’s total exports to China (5.26% in 2010);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.47% of Russia’s total exports to China (3.37% in 2010).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to China in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:
