Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In 2011, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $296,488,482, up 160.80% ($182,806,198) from 2010.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2011 totaled $271,821,334, up 148.12% ($162,268,058) from 2010.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2011 totaled $24,667,148, up 497.41% ($20,538,140) from 2010.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in 2011 was $247,154,186, a 134.44% increase ($141,729,918) over 2010.

Nigeria was Russia’s 93rd largest trading partner in 2011 (up from 105th in 2010), accounting for 0.0360% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0182% in 2010).

Nigeria was Russia’s 78th largest export market in 2011 (up from 91st in 2010), accounting for 0.0526% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0276% in 2010).

Nigeria was Russia’s 107th largest supplier in 2011 (up from 128th in 2010), accounting for 0.0081% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0018% in 2010).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in 2011 (and in 2010) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 45.03% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (21.54% in 2010);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 35.10% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (32.42% in 2010);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.32% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (36.93% in 2010);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.85% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (0.00% in 2010);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.44% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (6.74% in 2010);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $31,465,020;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $28,456,764;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $7,495,809;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,421,097.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $5,238,212;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,180,133.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in 2011 (and in 2010) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.75% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (99.56% in 2010).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $20,694,130;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $96,606.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $213,000;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $87,306.
