Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Mongolia was $240,912,428, down 29.56% ($101,110,920) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $231,352,534, down 29.36% ($96,151,156) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $9,559,894, down 34.16% ($4,959,764) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $221,792,640, a 29.14% decrease ($91,191,392) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Mongolia was Russia’s 58th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 50th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2213% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2509% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Mongolia was Russia’s 45th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3482% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3577% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Mongolia was Russia’s 91st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 88th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0226% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0324% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 57.75% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (75.98% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 21.70% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (9.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.23% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (5.61% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.49% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (3.80% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.49% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (2.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,611,548;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,526,597;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $1,408,447;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $879,736.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $114,955,405;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,775,592;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $1,600,213;
