Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $556,077,018, up 36.68% ($149,235,133) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $245,516,393, up 99.80% ($122,633,109) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $310,560,625, up 9.37% ($26,602,024) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $65,044,232, a 59.62% decrease ($96,031,085) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Malaysia was Russia’s 43rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 45th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.4561% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3206% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Malaysia was Russia’s 49th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 64th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3413% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1545% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Malaysia was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.6214% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5992% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 81.60% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (48.34% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.77% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (7.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.65% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (23.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.97% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (15.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.76% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (4.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.05% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.43% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $140,938,949;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $5,271,470;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,115,897;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $1,015,423;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $886,411.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $13,367,655;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $11,434,576;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $1,094,062;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,046,609;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $785,696.
