Russia’s Trade with South Africa

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with South Africa was $263,197,951, down 22.60% ($76,839,669) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $79,142,414, down 48.32% ($74,009,662) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $184,055,537, down 1.51% ($2,830,007) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $104,913,123, a 211.01% increase ($71,179,655) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

South Africa was Russia’s 57th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 48th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2159% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2679% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

South Africa was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 58th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1100% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1926% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

South Africa was Russia’s 41st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 40th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3683% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3944% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The major share of Russian exports to South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 69.96% of Russia’s total exports to South Africa (65.16% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.02% of Russia’s total exports to South Africa (1.62% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.67% of Russia’s total exports to South Africa (26.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
