Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Sweden totaled $1,198,913,157, up 22.54% ($220,541,845) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $725,517,123, up 27.27% ($155,451,864) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $473,396,034, up 15.94% ($65,089,981) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Sweden in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $252,121,089, a 55.86% increase ($90,361,883) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Sweden was Russia’s 22nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 25th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.9833% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.7709% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Sweden was Russia’s 21st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 28th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.0084% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.7168% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Sweden was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 27th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.9472% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8616% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 66.17% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (58.20% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 23.11% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (34.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.68% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (0.92% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.37% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.53% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $148,598,433;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $37,624,263;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $5,006,828;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $4,865,707.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $12,806,465;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $11,589,101;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $6,622,081;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $3,466,668.
