Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,303,443,331, up 19.39% ($211,732,155) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $594,830,258, up 72.95% ($250,904,549) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $708,613,073, down 5.24% ($39,172,394) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $113,782,815, a 71.83% decrease ($290,076,943) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Brazil was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 27th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.9565% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.8348% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Brazil was Russia’s 31st largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 42nd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.7095% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4172% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Brazil was Russia’s 18th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 15th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.3515% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.5470% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 58.31% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (91.53% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 36.58% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (4.36% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.80% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.57% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.73% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (0.58% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $201,134,560;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $43,540,282;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $8,910,679;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $3,602,999;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $3,193,629.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $13,109,078;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - a decrease of $2,254,908.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 84.88% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (88.79% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.17% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.67% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.47% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.36% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.32% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.97% in the 4th quarter of 2015).
