Russia’s Trade with Cuba
In 2016, Russia’s trade with Cuba totaled $248,078,088, up 82.60% ($112,219,916) from 2015.
Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2016 totaled $213,583,675, up 144.52% ($126,237,241) from 2015.
Russia’s imports from Cuba in 2016 were $34,494,413, down 28.89% ($14,017,325) from 2015.
Russia’s trade surplus with Cuba in 2016 was $179,089,262, a 361.16% increase ($140,254,566) over 2015.
Cuba was Russia’s 92nd largest trading partner in 2016 (up from 107th in 2015), accounting for 0.0530% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0258% in 2015).
Cuba was Russia’s 77th largest export market in 2016 (up from 102nd in 2015), accounting for 0.0748% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0254% in 2015).
Cuba was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in 2016 (down from 93rd in 2015), accounting for 0.0189% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0266% in 2015).
Russia’s Exports to Cuba
The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in 2016 (and in 2015) was accounted for the following product types:
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 63.62% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (58.93% in 2015);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.74% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (5.88% in 2015);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.99% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (11.24% in 2015);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.79% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (10.85% in 2015);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.65% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (6.92% in 2015);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.16% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (2.60% in 2015).

- Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $25,955,565;
- Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $11,382,225;
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $7,788,883;
- Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $2,208,106;
- Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,076,255;
