In 2016, Russia’s trade with Iran totaled $2,184,322,496, up 70.54% ($903,479,332) from 2015.

Russia’s exports to Iran in 2016 totaled $1,881,772,385, up 84.94% ($864,280,985) from 2015.

Russia’s imports from Iran in 2016 totaled $302,550,111, up 14.88% ($39,198,347) from 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iran in 2016 was $1,579,222,274, a 109.41% increase ($825,082,638) over 2015.

Iran was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in 2016 (up from 53rd in 2015), accounting for 0.4670% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2434% in 2015).

Iran was Russia’s 34th largest export market in 2016 (up from 48th in 2015), accounting for 0.6591% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2961% in 2015).

Iran was Russia’s 59th largest supplier in 2016 (up from 61st in 2015), accounting for 0.1660% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1442% in 2015).

The major share of Russian exports to Iran in 2016 (and in 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 35.84% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (10.79% in 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 22.77% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (47.13% in 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.01% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (20.61% in 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.64% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (17.15% in 2015);
