Russia’s Trade with Iran

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Iran totaled $557,025,727, up 52.55% ($191,876,042) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Iran in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $456,280,566, up 57.17% ($165,961,953) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Iran in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $100,745,161, up 34.63% ($25,914,089) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iran in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $355,535,405, a 64.99% increase ($140,047,864) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Iran was Russia’s 43rd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 53rd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.4088% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2792% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Iran was Russia’s 38th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 50th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.5442% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3522% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Iran was Russia’s 57th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 62nd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1921% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1548% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Iran

The major share of Russian exports to Iran in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 36.91% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (32.73% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 27.02% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (39.43% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 25.19% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (4.86% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.90% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (16.50% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.40% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (5.33% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $7,034,045;
