Russia’s Trade with New Zealand

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with New Zealand totaled $101,027,838, up 47.47% ($32,518,278) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $36,305,167, up 1.19% ($426,424) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $64,722,671, up 98.35% ($32,091,854) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade balance with New Zealand went from a surplus of $3,247,926 in the 4th quarter of 2015, to a deficit of $28,417,504 in the 4th quarter of 2016.

New Zealand was Russia’s 85th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 88th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0741% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0524% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

New Zealand was Russia’s 91st largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 87th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0433% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0435% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

New Zealand was Russia’s 65th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 74th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1234% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0675% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to New Zealand

The major share of Russian exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 92.29% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (97.08% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.70% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (0.15% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.25% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (1.28% in the 4th quarter of 2015);

  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $137,668;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $125,945;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $118,717;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $112,883.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,332,213.
