Russia’s Trade with Portugal

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Portugal totaled $300,070,096, up 59.98% ($112,503,992) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $198,398,847, up 132.66% ($113,123,849) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $101,671,249, down 0.61% ($619,857) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade balance with Portugal went from a deficit of $17,016,108 in the 4th quarter of 2015, to a surplus of $96,727,598 in the 4th quarter of 2016.

Portugal was Russia’s 58th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 68th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2202% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1434% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Portugal was Russia’s 55th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 70th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2366% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1034% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Portugal was Russia’s 56th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 54th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1939% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2116% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Portugal

The major share of Russian exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 73.11% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (87.16% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 18.19% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.02% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.62% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.11% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.40% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (3.87% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.67% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (6.80% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $70,726,925;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $36,000,000;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $7,109,226;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,772,122.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

Russia’s Imports from Portugal

The major share of Russian imports from Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 24.77% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (30.43% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.27% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (17.93% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.52% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (11.09% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.52% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (10.63% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
