Russia’s Trade with Ukraine

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Ukraine was $3,005,680,084, down 26.60% ($1,089,233,977) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $1,822,663,631, down 31.65% ($844,182,078) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $1,183,016,453, down 17.16% ($245,051,899) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $639,647,178, a 48.36% decrease ($599,130,179) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Ukraine was Russia’s 13th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 10th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 2.2057% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.1314% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Ukraine was Russia’s 14th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 9th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 2.1741% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.2352% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Ukraine was Russia’s 9th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 8th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 2.2563% of Russia’s total imports (down from 2.9544% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Ukraine

The major share of Russian exports to Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 31.49% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (46.26% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 24.08% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (24.90% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.62% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (11.54% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.08% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (7.57% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.97% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (4.44% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
