Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh
In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh totaled $366,508,224, up 63.46% ($142,288,634) from the 1st quarter of 2016.
Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $137,059,373, up 139.72% ($79,883,918) from the 1st quarter of 2016.
Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $229,448,851, up 37.36% ($62,404,716) from the 1st quarter of 2016.
Russia’s trade deficit with Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $92,389,478, a 15.91% decrease ($17,479,202) over the 1st quarter of 2016.
Bangladesh was Russia’s 52nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 58th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2851% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2310% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
Bangladesh was Russia’s 59th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 73rd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1645% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0933% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
Bangladesh was Russia’s 36th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 37th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5075% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4666% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh
The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 39.92% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (49.55% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.32% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (8.09% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 21.50% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (0.09% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.38% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (5.98% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.45% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (30.43% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

- Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $29,217,619;
- Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $27,030,699;
- Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $6,487,759;
- Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - an increase of $1,279,789.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $9,722,104;
- Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $2,059,000;
- Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,922,490.
