Russia’s Trade with Turkey

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Turkey totaled $4,134,220,307, up 13.43% ($489,338,275) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Turkey in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $3,538,155,907, up 9.14% ($296,181,384) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Turkey in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $596,064,400, up 47.94% ($193,156,891) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Turkey in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $2,942,091,507, a 3.63% increase ($103,024,493) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Turkey was Russia’s 8th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 3.2160% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.7546% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Turkey was Russia’s 5th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 4th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 4.2456% of Russia’s total exports (down from 5.2902% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Turkey was Russia’s 20th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 22nd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.3183% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.1255% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Turkey

The major share of Russian exports to Turkey in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 54.30% of Russia’s total exports to Turkey (59.64% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 28.51% of Russia’s total exports to Turkey (22.09% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.50% of Russia’s total exports to Turkey (12.04% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.40% of Russia’s total exports to Turkey (3.52% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.12% of Russia’s total exports to Turkey (1.69% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $20,698,152;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $19,396,308;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $19,306,628;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $15,030,046;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $13,685,558.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Turkey in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $34,661,166;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $23,446,337;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $22,748,910;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $19,358,415;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $12,983,150.
