Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $309,198,034, up 16.34% ($43,422,498) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $94,033,131, up 117.50% ($50,799,758) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $215,164,903, down 3.31% ($7,377,260) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $121,131,772, a 32.45% decrease ($58,177,018) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Argentina was Russia’s 58th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 52nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2212% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2442% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 81st in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1120% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0651% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 47th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 36th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3857% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.5250% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 76.00% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (35.24% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.45% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (53.04% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.77% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (1.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.86% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (6.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.61% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.68% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $736,539;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,689,951;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $776,042;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $530,654;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $404,158;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $318,257.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 84.61% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (84.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.10% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (13.00% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
