Russia’s Trade with China

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with China totaled $19,927,839,536, up 34.83% ($5,147,425,846) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $9,235,191,891, up 31.81% ($2,228,602,676) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from China in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $10,692,647,645, up 37.55% ($2,918,823,170) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with China in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $1,457,455,754, a 89.96% increase ($690,220,494) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 14.2589% of Russia’s total trade (up from 13.5801% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

China was Russia’s largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 2nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 10.9979% of Russia’s total exports (up from 10.5445% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 19.1677% of Russia’s total imports (up from 18.3384% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 68.26% of Russia’s total exports to China (70.01% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 11.78% of Russia’s total exports to China (13.04% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.53% of Russia’s total exports to China (6.52% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.71% of Russia’s total exports to China (4.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.40% of Russia’s total exports to China (4.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).
