Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Egypt totaled $1,388,706,814, up 93.40% ($670,650,471) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $1,167,453,102, up 106.69% ($602,608,725) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $221,253,712, up 44.41% ($68,041,746) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $946,199,390, a 129.87% increase ($534,566,979) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Egypt was Russia’s 19th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 29th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9937% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6597% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Egypt was Russia’s 18th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 25th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.3903% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.8501% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Egypt was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 49th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3966% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3614% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 32.79% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (34.07% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.78% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (26.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 12.37% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (7.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.06% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (9.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.44% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (17.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.21% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (4.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $135,132,821;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $77,013,246;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $48,924,420;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $32,469,792;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $25,892,855;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $32,335,022;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $29,205,447;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $3,553,082.

Russia’s Imports from Egypt

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 4.89% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (9.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.80% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (1.70% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
